Sir Richard Branson is at it again. While Virgin Galactic’s Space Ship One is still in the works – space tourism being something I dream of partaking in one day – he has set his sights on the next huge endeavor: reaching the deepest depths of all five oceans with Virgin Oceanic.
I’ve always watched the space race with amazement, yet I’m stumped by the fact that everyone (myself included) seems to be staring at the skies while we still know so little about the richness of our own planet. I’m hoping this project will make expeditions on earth once again popular like in the days of the old explorers and tales of Moby Dick.
On a side note: Branson sure knows how to spend his money well, and it seems everybody wins: he fulfills his personal craving of adventure, humanity gains from his achievements and the resulting insights. I’m wondering if he will go down in history as one of the great ones. Is this what modern explorers look like? His developing legacy sure looks promising.
